It all began in 1979 when concerned citizens sought to stop a development proposal at the mouth of the Currumbin Creek involving a large marina & high rise complex. Since, members have maintained a watching ‘brief’ towards issues of a social, political or environmental nature that may impact upon the social and/or natural ambience of the Currumbin and Flat Rock Creek region. We seek to enhance, protect and beautify natural features and public open spaces, and find ways to further improve the quality of life for people living in and/or visiting the region. The term 'the Currumbin & Flat Rock Creek region' is the drainage catchments of these waterways (including tributaries) from the headwaters to the mouth as well as the surf zone along the beachfront. It also encompasses all of the suburbs of Currumbin Valley, Currumbin Waters, and Currumbin, and parts of the suburbs of Elanora, Palm Beach and Tugun. While we focus is on matters affecting the the Currumbin & Flat Rock Creek region and we attempt to embody a variety of diverse views, we neither ‘speak’ for the broader population nor any other group. We hold monthly meetings (generally) on the third Wednesday of the month at the Sawrey Room, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary - 28 Tomewin St, Currumbin commencing at 7:00pm (except December & January) Irrespective of membership, we welcome anyone interested in the Currumbin & Flat Rock Creek region to attend a meeting. Meetings are intended to promote community dialogue and reasoned debate. Friends of Currumbin is managed by executive members. The current elected members of the executive are:
